Top 10 of 2022

Welcome back and Happy New Year to all our readers. While I’m sure we are all still adjusting to writing 2023 and getting into the swing of the New Year the team here at Smart Strata wanted to follow tradition and take the time to highlight our top-read updates from 2022.

There is no denying it was a big year, from Smoke Drift Legal decisions and Flood Insurance assistance to EV charging and all the complexities that topical subject is beginning to pose in our schemes , we were not short of topics for discussions.

Throughout 2022, we are proud to announce our updates were read over 700,000 times. In this article, we are going to count down our top 10 updates and provide you with a small recap on each one.

Coming in 10th Place and being read by more people than our top article of 2021 was: Debt Recovery – Counter Claim as a Defence? | History of Body Corporate Series – Part 1 with an impressive 14,786 reads. Debt recovery was written by long-term Smart Strata supporter Jason Carlson of Grace Lawyers. Nicky Lonergan, Archers The Strata Professionals kicked off part 1 of 3 of the History of body Corporate articles.

In 9th place, we had a 3-article update including CCTV – Security & Privacy Differences | Seminars Series – NQ Wrap up | Commissioners Office – Effective Communication. Jason Carlson, Grace Lawyers. again, was the author of CCTV – Security & Privacy covering the ins and outs of security cameras within a body corporate scheme.  A Commissioner’s article touched on good communication going hand in hand with the smooth and efficient running of a body corporate and Smart Strata wrapped up our NQ side of the Seminar series. This update was read by 15,039 subscribers.

With 15,050 reads and in 8th position was History of Body Corporate Series – Part 3 | Community Education Seminars – Brisbane and Gold Coast Presenters Announced! | Painting Quote Assessment. A very popular article contributed by Rochele Painting covered what makes a good painting quote and outlined what you should expect to see.  The final segment of Nicky Lonergans History of body corporate covered the period 1995 to 2022: the welcome to the modernisation of strata regulations, what issues are currently being reviewed, and what the future holds.

Commissioners Office – Caretaker Disputes | New CMS Lodgement – When is it too Late? Andrew Suttie from Nicholsons Solicitors is another popular contributor. His article around the lack of stipulation to the consequences of non-compliance within the timeframe of updated legislation requiring the body corporate to lodge a new community management statement within 3 months of the date of the resolution was very popular. This edition of our update received 15,153 reads coming in at 7th place. Alongside Andrews’s article was another Commissioners’ office update around Caretaker Disputes.

15,444 read earnt this update 6th place. Covering:  By-Laws and Legislative Compliance | Committee Meetings – Secrets to Success | Flood Damage – Impacts Services. Todd Garsden Partner at Mahoneys Lawyers broke down By-laws part by part aiming to arm stakeholders with the knowledge to help them avoid unlawful by-laws and give them the tools to successfully administer their scheme. Emily Birch from Archers The Strata Professionals also Contributed a fantastic article on the secrets to running a successful committee meeting.

In 5th position, being read 15,508 times Jet Charge covered what may be the topic of 2023: Electric Vehicle Charging. This article created great interaction with our subscribers with a large number of questions and comments being made on the forum. What could be more popular than EV Charging? Parking of course! in 4th place was: Towing Order Explained | Management Rights Reform FAQs with an impressive 15,831 reads.  Frank Higginson from Hynes Legal made a popular contribution explaining the Vehicle Towing order. SCA Qld then featured details on the current state of play and access to SCA (QLD) FAQs on its reform views.

It looks like everyone wanted to hear what we had to say at the end of 2022 with our wrap-up article taking out the third spot with 16,035 reads. Happy Holidays | Body Corporate Owners Survey. Our top 2 articles were both breaking news updates covering big announcements in the Strata Industry. In second place was the Flood Insurance Assistance with 16,154 reads.

To no surprise, our most read update of 2022 covered A landmark legal decision by the Body Corporate and Community Management (BCCM) which will see a renewed focus on smoke drift within strata communities, moving the focus to anyone that smokes! This had an impressive 16,198 reads and was again contributed by Jason Carlson, Grace Lawyers.. This is Jason’s third article to be featured in our top 10 of 2022.
