BCM Licensing – Have your say!

We are seeking your feedback on a proposed regulatory framework for licensing of body corporate managers in Queensland. This has been a goal of SCA (Qld) since our inception in 1983.

A well designed licensing regime would represent a watershed moment for our industry and create a new era of professionalism in the sector.
The survey should take approximately ten minutes to complete, and we ask that you take the time to fill out the survey as thoroughly and honestly as possible. We are seeking feedback from body corporate managers, suppliers and lot owners. We are hoping to get a wide array of perspectives from all professionals in the industry to create the best possible framework for our industry.  Any and all feedback is sincerely appreciated.

If you wish to give more extensive feedback or discuss the potential for licensing please email our Policy Officer Kristian Marlow at advocacy.qld@strata.community or contact us on 07 3839 3011.

I 100 percent support licencing for body corporate managers for the services body corporate managers provide. I would like to see licencing and training for body corporate managers and body corporate committees.

As real estate agents we have regulations and are held liable for our actions by the OFT, I believe body corporate management companies also need to be governed in the same way and require a licence to operate such business.

Body corporate management is one of the most stressful jobs in the industry and it takes experience and skills to manage a body corporate of any size and licencing and regulations need to reflect this section of the industry.

I strongly believe that body corporation managers should be licenced and on public record.
We have a manager (and part of the huge PICA group) which I have heard has at least 60% of Queensland’s B.C’s on its books. The three years we have had these managers, their costs have steadily risen. We are a five unit complex and are all owner occupiers and pensioners – a very small group from which to pay for their services and levies etc. i.e.Charge of $77 (incl GST) for simply registering a dog living in a unit.

My response sent a few moments ago – Highlighting a lot of things But mainly the need for a “Licensed” not Professional (meaningless term) regime.

    And an independent body.

    Happy to be contacted.

I am reading this as “proposed regulatory framework for licensing of body corporate managers in Queensland” means that there currently is none. This must be fixed and they need to be accountable for the reasons highlighted by Jan – same for our body corporate. Extra charges were 2/3 more than the agreed fee and then the stuff we got sent was wrong.
