Community Education Seminars – NQ Recap

Last week the debate roadshow travelled to North Queensland with great success and resounding feedback that the format was both engaging and informative.

Jason Carlson (Grace Lawyers), Trevor Rawnsley (ARAMA) and Mario Esera (HWL Ebsworth) delivered their respective viewpoints and strategies for achieving harmony within strata schemes while debate facilitator Chris Irons (Strata Solve) looked for holes in their arguments and provided his own insights based on his experience as Former Commissioner for the Office for Body Corporate and Community.

The debate was obviously close in all three locations with comments echoing the sentiments that education, understanding and communication are key to working towards harmony.

With over 365 people now having registered to attend our Strata Community Education Seminars across the Gold and Sunshine Coasts, Airlie Beach, Townsville and Cairns, the desire to upskill committees and look for harmonious ways to live in strata schemes is heartening.

The concept of a summary disclosure checklist upon purchase of a strata lot certainly got traction, and the suggestion that strata committee members should get paid (especially in larger schemes) was tabled with mixed reactions.

The three North Queensland seminars were the first time Mario Esera (HWL Ebsworth) joined the debate and was popular in all three regions.   At each seminar, the audience are asked to vote on which argument most aligned with their views on creating harmony.  Each of our debaters took out a win in North Queensland with Airlie Beach most aligned with Trevor Rawnsley (ARAMA), Townsville voted most favourably for Jason Carlson (Grace Lawyers) and Mario winning Cairns.

Another valuable component of these seminars is the ability for attendees to mix and mingle with our exhibitor partners from across a broad spectrum of strata specialist trades and services.  A special giveaway was provided at each event for a lucky respondent who completed the exhibitor passport.  We are excited to announce the winners were:

  • Airlie Beach, $50 Gift Card – Kim from Le Jarden
  • Townsville, $50 Gift Card – Graham from Castle Waters
  • Cairns, $75 DoubleTree Voucher – Marg from The Keys

Congratulations to all winners.  We will contact you to organise the delivery of your prize vouchers.

Now all of our attention turns to Brisbane, where for the first time we will be offering a live streaming facility to those that have missed out on our other locations and who are unable to physically make it to Brisbane.  This is a fantastic opportunity for owners and committee members that are not physically located in Queensland, or near the event locations where we have held seminars at, to obtain the same high quality of knowledge and education that our guest speakers have delivered.  For all of those that attended our other events and wished that they were able to bring their whole committee, the online event is a perfect opportunity for everyone to hear the same information and then discuss as a committee how your strata scheme can adopt some of the suggestions.

There is still time to register:

Please ensure that you carefully enter your email as the confirmation email you receive upon registration contains the link you need to enter the seminar on the 15th June. If for some reason you do not receive a confirmation email, please contact us on info@smartstrata.com

Thank you to all of those that have attended our roadshow so far.  We look forward to bringing them home with a bang in Brisbane and have been so grateful for such active and engaged audiences across Queensland.
