Community Education Seminars – Brisbane and Gold Coast Presenters Announced!

By-Laws, we all know about them. Most of us refer to them, but are they worth the paper they are written on? As announced last week this round of Strata Community Education Seminars is set to explore some big questions all about Bylaws.

To answer the big questions and share their opinions and experiences we have brought in some of the most well-known industry experts in Queensland.

We had a vast amount of positive feedback from the speakers that presented in our May seminars so back by popular demand at our Brisbane and Gold Coast seminars we will hear from:

Chris Irons, Director Strata Solve

With an unmatched perspective on the strata sector, Chris Irons is a thought leader for strata issues and dispute resolution. For over 5 years Chris was Queensland’s Commissioner for Body Corporate and Community Management, the only role of its type in the world. After working for well-known strata law firm Hynes Legal, Chris is now an independent strata consultant, working under the banner of Strata Solve and helping clients to untangle their strata issues with tailored solutions.

Mario Esera, Partner HWL Ebsworth

Mario has specialised in Body Corporate law for more than a decade. His main area of expertise is in relation to disputes, particularly management rights disputes, building defect claims, by-law enforcement, and levy recoveries.

Mario conducts disputes in all Queensland Courts, as well as the Office of the Commissioner for Body Corporate and Community Management and the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

He primarily acts for Bodies Corporate and their Committees but also acts for property developers (original owners), management rights holders (caretakers and letting agents) and lot owners

Trevor Rawnsley, CEO ARAMA.

We are honoured to have Australian Resident Accommodation Managers Association (ARAMA) Chief Executive Officer Trevor Rawnsley join our panel of experts. ARAMA is the Peak Industry Body that represents the interests of people who are involved in Management Rights.

As CEO, Trevor is responsible for the financial performance of the association, member liaison, and operational advice. Also responsible for sponsorship liaison, organising branch, State, and national committees, and producing members’ educational and information events.

Fresh to the stage for Smart Strata we will also have:

Frank Higginson, Director and Partner Hynes Legal

Frank Higginson heads the community titles practice at Hynes Legal. Frank commenced five years articles of clerkship on the Gold Coast while studying law externally in January 1992 and apart from a two-year hiatus working in London with a multinational firm from 1997 to 1999 he has practiced in Queensland in property matters for his entire career. Frank joined Hynes Legal in 2001. He became a partner/director in 2004 and since then has whittled his practice down to the two keys areas for strata law in Queensland – body corporate law and management rights.

As well as this impressive lineup of experts we will also have a representative from Archers the Strata Professional on stage.

In Brisbane this will be Wayne Hewitt Partner of the Brisbane office and in the Gold Coast will be Nicky Lonergan, Archers the Strata Professionals Managing Director.

All speakers are set to bring an original and educated opinion based from knowledge and experience to the stage. We encourage as many people from within your building and committee to attend. These events could be just the thing you need to clear up some of the long-running questions within your own strata scheme!
